Sylvia Zuckerbrod passed away on June 29, 2016 at the age of just about 90. Sylvia was born in Newark, NJ to Joseph and Anna Ehrenkrantz- hard-working immigrants who stressed the importance of education and hard work. She graduated from Southside High School and eventually worked at Fort Monmouth as first a secretary and then, after obtaining her BA from Monmouth College, as a procurement specialist. Her subsequent jobs included working on-site to build an air base in the desert in Israel, and later at CECOM. She went on to obtain two Masters Degrees. She was an accomplished artist (portraits a specialty), read voraciously, and loved to dance. She yearned to travel, to always learn, to keep up with the rapidly changing world around her. She lost her son, Michael, her daughter, Helene, and her husband, Saul to cancer- while combating the disease herself. And she continued smiling, exhibiting good humor and grace despite her sadness. She suffered from a myriad of serious illnesses, yet she attempted to maintain her independence even though she was dependent on others at the Brookside Assisted Living , Freehold, NJ.
She was a woman of valor- a life well-lived. A woman who persisted despite innumerable obstacles in her path. She was a great beauty. She was incredible.
She is survived by her brother, Ira Ehrenkrantz, his wife Rhoda Ehrenkrantz, niece Staci Ehrenkrantz and nephew Lee Ehrenkrantz-all of Miami, FL. A daughter, Dr Jacqueline Zuckerbrod; her son-in law, Dr Paul Axelrad, and innumerable people of all ages and backgrounds that she called her friends and families.
Funeral arrangements are private, and donations in her memory may be made to the Ashley Lauren Foundation.
