I will always remember my long talks with cousin Warren about the Kartorzynski immigrants and what life was like in Brooklyn.  Without Warren's remarkable memory, I would never have been able to build the family tree and find the exact location of the ancestral dairy farm in Negenwicze, Belarus.  I wish I could have just one more conversation with Warren.

My condolences to Warren’s family. I was sad to learn of his passing. We were colleagues for many years at TIAA. I valued Warren’s intellect, generous spirit and unending kindness. He never was swayed by office politics. He always seemed to walk a straight path. I always enjoyed seeing him and his lovely wife Judy at TIAA events. They were such a great couple. May he rest in eternal peace. 

Warren was one of my most loved persons at TIAA-CREF.  He was the most real individual there.  He was always there for everyone  when they needed help or a friend.  I mean he was a real friend for everyone.  Someone who would drop anything for you if you needed help. Someone who would give you the true answer, the real help that you needed.  Not the political BS that other people gave you just because it was required for the upper big wigs.  Warren didn't care about what was what.  He cared about you and what you needed.  He was marvelous .  I worked there for 36 years and Warren was there the same time.  We had fun times together.  We didn't work in the same area but I was friends with the same people he was friends with and that was how we got to know each other.  It  was a wonderful work friendship.  I will miss him dearly.

Over the course of your  father’s career he influenced and befriended generations of coworkers. There are more than 200 comments in the TIAA Facebook group attesting to that. 

Thinking back, I’m not entirely sure if he and I met on the LIRR and got to know each other at work, or if we met at work and got to know each other on the train. Either way, our connection went far beyond actuarial calculations. When he realized I took a subway across town he insisted I try the bus instead, it was much more civilized. Except for your mother’s day to volunteer at MSK. Then we all sat together on the train and at their insistence, a taxi across town. 

The photo I’m sharing says a lot about both your parents. This is the TIAA table photo from my wedding in 1993. Everyone  else is younger than you, but that didn’t matter to anyone. Your parents had a great time, danced all night, and they were among the last to leave. 

Aside from probabilities and life expectancies, your father taught me to treat everyone with respect and kindness; no person was too small, no question dumb. May his memory be for a blessing for you, your family, friends, and all who knew him.

My sincere condolences to the Carter family.  Warren was always knowledgeable, helpful and a caring friend during my 41 years at TIAA.  He taught several generations of TIAA staff Actuarial Math in the LOMA Fellowship program.  Rest in peace dear friend.



Warren was the real deal and a true mensch. Always ready to assist, both in and out of the office. I will always remember how he and his beautiful and classy wive, Judy, were so  caring to my family. . My brother,  Robert, was a patient at Memorial Sloan Kettering. On learning this, both he and Judy, who both did volunteer work at the Center for years, made many visits and showed great caring. TIAA was a better place because of Warren. And he and,  Judy, left the world a better and kinder place. 

My heartfelt condolences to the family.  Warren Carter open the door to TIAA-CREF for me. I experienced 21 amazing years there and I owe it all to him.  Rest in Peace

It was an honor and privilege to have known Warren, both as a friend and colleague.  In Warren's case, those who worked with him as a colleague know that his friendship came as part of the package.  He was the consummate professional whose distinguished 44 year career contributed immensely to making TIAA the company we admired and enjoyed working for.  His legacy is secure.  I will remember Warren and Judy with much affection.  And my sincere condolences go to Jeff and his family.

Others have said it before me, but Warren was always so generous with all of us, willing to explain complicated topics. I  remember his pad (and pen, I believe) in his shirt pocket. He represented the best of TIAA-CREF.

Found this one today - a keeper.  Assuming from college - 1951.

We were sorry to learn of Warren's passing.  We first met Warren at a Four Seasons Social Committee meeting.  We bonded with Warren and Judy as we both came to 4 Season from Long Island.  Warren was a kind and caring person and always ready to help throughout the community.  It was a sad day when he decided to move, but knew it was the right choice for him.  Please accept our heartfelt condolences.

For many years, there was a breakfast table in the TIAA-CREF cafeteria and Warren was a frequent member of our group. We were from all parts of the company and we so loved each others' company, with Warren very much a warm part of the group.

I always knew I could ask him to explain anything about TIAA-CREF and our products (I was HR Training & Education) and I would get a thorough education. And, of course, for many years we would touch base with him and Judy at the 25-year reunions.

I have warm memories of one of the nicest, most generous people I have ever known. My deepest consolations to his family.

“Well you know”, it’s hard to think of Warren without a smile and curiosity about what story was coming next.  Warren, my Dad, and the Brooklyn Boys and their wives were a treasure to us kids, that I deeply appreciate as  a Mom and Grandmother now.  This pic was taken in 2005 when the crew came out to WI for the second time to attend my daughter’s Bat Mitzvah!  Warren of course met somebody who knew someone he knew.  He was a connection wizard with probably only 2 degrees of separation between him and the rest of the world:).  I am sorry for your loss Jeff, Barbara and family.  I hope his warm heart, kindness, tell it like it is attitude and spirit bring smiles to your faces  and his memory continue as a blessing.

Our condolences to Jeff and family. Warren was both a close friend and a mentor. His infectious laugh and "can do" attitude made him a source of both wisdom and humor. He was a member of or associated with every Actuarial task force I remember, and always contributed knowledge, perspective and graciousness to all efforts. How often I recall Warren threatening to "tear the place apart" over something not working correctly. He was a pleasure to work with and for, and his legacy at TIAA will not soon be forgotten.

Dear Friends and Family,

Warren was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and a wonderful and highly respected colleague at TIAA for 44 years from 1951 to 1995.  It was always enjoyable to have a conversation with Warren, either to learn something new or to hear an interesting story.  When we needed to get something approved, who could forget those big, bold "WAC" intials!  Warren
loved to proudly display his Phi Beta Kappa key on his belt.  Warren was the man to go to to get answers, and was known as "Mr. CREF" as he carried all the current and historical CREF unit values in his shirt pocket.  Warren was always approachable and a good friend to all.  He will be deeply missed.  May he rest in peace.

I joined TIAA in September of 1956 and met Warren soon after. Being in his presence and counting him as a true friend during my career in the company was an absolute joy.  He was one of a kind-always helpful and great to be with.  I suspect God will have the same reaction.  Rest In Peace good friend.

My condolences to Jeff and the whole family. Warren was my first boss at TIAA. He was a true gentleman, a beautiful soul who gave everyone his best self. My personal memories of Warren’s kindness include offering his home as refuge during a terrible snowstorm many years ago. He has earned an infinity of peace. 

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Warren Carter. We kept in touch and had dinner together while I lived in NJ.  Iwas always happy to help him with his Via Benefits reimbursements. Warren was a pleasure to work with at TIAA. I will miss talking to him. May he Rest In Peace!
