

He was raised in Manchester and was a graduate of St. Augustin Parochial School in 1936 and attended the Marist Brothers Juniorate in Poughkeepsie, NY. He graduated from Central High School, class of 1941-A and Hesser College of Accounting, class of 1948.
Mr. Lessard was a veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa and southern Italy. He was in the ordinance division and the recipient of several group gold star decorations in the European theatre of war. Following the war he was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Co. of Hartford CT and later was office manager of Willy’s Jeep in Manchester.
In 1949 he joined the Amoskeag National Bank & Trust Co. as a messenger and substitute teller and retired as Vice President & Corporate Secretary after 40 years of service with Amoskeag Bank.
An active member of the community, he served as Director and City Chairman of the Special Gifts committee for the NH Catholic Charities, director of the American Institute of Banking. He was a former member of the Joliet Club and St. Anthony of Padua parish council finance committee. He was a past president, director and secretary of the AFCA; chairman, director and assistant treasurer of the Greater Manchester Chapter of the American Red Cross and a past director and treasurer of the United Way of Greater Manchester. He was a member of the American Legion, Henry J. Sweeney Post #2. Mr. Lessard served as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Bell choir at St. Anthony of Padua Church.
He leaves his wife of 64 years, Noella L. (Jodoin) Lessard of Manchester; four children, Raymond A. Lessard of Bedford, Frances N. Underwood of Hooksett, Colette C. Musick of Ocala FL and Paul H. Lessard of Allenstown; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister Dr. Frances Lessard, CSC of Manchester.
Calling hours were from 1 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday in the McHugh Funeral Home, 483 Beech St., corner of Hanover St. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 172 Belmont St. Burial with military honors followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross, 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester NH 03109 or to the St. Anthony of Padua Parish Fund, 172 Belmont St., Manchester NH 03103.
