

Daniel F. Collins, 90, of Manchester passed away February 26, 2014 in Mount Carmel Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Boston MA on January 16, 1924, the son of Daniel and Helen (Sheehan) Collins.
He was raised in Brookline, MA and was a graduate of Northeastern University. He received his Master’s degree from Harvard University. A resident of Hooksett since 1967, he had previously lived in Reading, MA.
Prior to his retirement in 1989, he had been employed for more than 20 years as the Deputy Director for the Water Supply and Pollution Control Commission for the State of New Hampshire. One of his notable projects was project manager for the Winnipesaukee River Basin Project.
Daniel was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Reading, MA.
An avid fan of Boston sports teams, Daniel enjoyed traveling, music, reading and crossword puzzles. He always wanted to make people laugh.
His beloved wife of 54 years, Marilyn (Kane) Collins died in July 2010.
Family members include a son Mark and his wife Donna Collins of Goffstown, a son Peter and his wife Bonnie Collins of East Holden, ME and their sons John, Michael and James and his wife Bethany, daughter Martha Schenk and her husband David of Auburn, ME and their sons David and Christopher; son John and his wife Lupe of Maywood NJ and their daughters Jacqueline and Cristina; and many nieces and nephews.
A calling hour was held Monday from 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover St., corner of Beech St. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at 10 AM in Ste. Marie Church, Notre Dame Ave. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford. Memorial donations may be made in Daniel’s name to St. Charles Children’s Home, 19 Grant St., Rochester NH 03867.
