Francis J. (Frank) Buczynski Jr., 94, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2016 at the Bedford Nursing and Rehab Center, where he had been lovingly cared for the past six years. He was born in Franklin, NH on April 11, 1921 the son of Francis and Katherine (Ramek) Buczynski, and had resided in Manchester for the past fifty years.
He graduated from Franklin High School in 1939 and worked at Pratt and Whitney Corp. in East Hartford, CT until he enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He served on the aircraft carrier the USS Lexington CV-16, the Blue Ghost, in the Pacific as a machinist mate during the war. It was nicknamed the Blue Ghost because Tokyo Rose had declared it sunk no less than four times while in the Pacific, only to have it be the first carrier to enter Tokyo Bay at war's end. His three brothers Walter, Julian, and Alex also served in the war and by coincidence Frank once met Alex, who was in the Army, on an island while they were both serving in the Pacific.
After the war, in 1947, he married his childhood sweetheart and neighbor Annie “Babci” Nowak, who passed away in 2014 after 67 years of marriage. Starting in Somersworth, NH in 1948 he was employed at General Electric in management and as a machinist retiring in 1983 in Hooksett NH. Upon retiring he loved to travel with his wife, golf, and spend time with his family. He enjoyed traveling to various golf courses in NH for a challenging 18 holes with his friends. His wife was an avid Red Sox and Patriot fan and he would sit with her patiently watching the games, while at the same time trying to keep her blood pressure under control.
Besides his wife he was also predeceased by his three brothers Walter, Julian, and Alex and his three sisters Jean, Alice, and Julie.
He is survived by his two daughters, Patricia Bernard and her husband Carl of Concord and Katherine Stanton and her husband Jack of Manchester, his three grandchildren, Tom Stanton and his wife Allie Ferrelli of Manchester, Kaitlin Stanton and her husband Tim Pomplun of Portsmouth, and Philip Talbot of Candia, two great grandchildren, Lillianna Grace Pomplun and Eoin Michael Stanton as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
With heartfelt gratitude, his family would like to thank the staff at BNRC for the dedicated and loving care they provided to Frank for the past six years. They would also like to thank Brookhaven Hospice for the support they provided to his family at the end of their Dad’s journey. You will all remain in their thoughts and prayers forever.
There wee no calling hours. At the family’s request, services were private. Memorial donations in Frank’s name may be made to BNRC Resident’s Fund 480 Donald St. Bedford, NH 03110. The family entrusted his care to the McHugh Funeral Home.
