James was born and raised in Manchester; the son of Edward and Margaret. He was the oldest of 11 children. In 1942, at the age of 21, he joined the Marine Corps, proudly serving his country during WWII bravely fighting at Guadalcanal.
After the war, James came back to Manchester and opened up his barber shop. He will be remembered as “Jim the Barber” to scores of boys who would visit his chair for a brush cut, a teddy bear cut, or a flat top; and to get their ears lowered so they would listen to their parents. Jim was a barber in Manchester for 52 years.
James is predeceased by his second wife, Alfreda and their daughter Maureen.
He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Sandy McGuire, his son Mike McGuire, his daughter Nancy McGuire, his daughter Linda Doane and her husband Ray, and his daughter Kim Brown and her husband Tim.
