

She was born in Manchester on January 29, 1934, the youngest of five children of Anna McDermott Hoey and Francis “Frank” Hoey. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School for Girls in Manchester in 1951 and worked at the Amoskeag Bank and Bee Bee Shoe before moving to Boston to work in and insurance company. She returned to work after her children had grown, at the former NYNEX Communication Company, where she worked for more than 20 years, first as an operator and then as a reproduction clerk before her retirement.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who enjoyed time with family and friends. She was a great “caretaker” and was always there for her family and friends in need of a hug, a listening ear and support. She enjoyed travel, the Red Sox and trips to the casinos and shopping for a bargain.
She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Robert F. Hoey, Edward C. Hoey and Francis Hoey and her former husband, John D. Singleton.
Family members include her children, Leslie Singleton Adam and her husband Alastair Adam of Boston, MA; her son, William E. Singleton and his partner, Amy Nasser of Goffstown; her grandchildren, William and India Adam of Boston, MA; a brother, Dr. John Hoey of Lakeland, FL and her cousin Patricia Duval of Bradenton, FL. In addition she leaves many nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, calling hours were on Monday, July 9th from 4 to 7 PM in the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover St., corner of Beech St. A Memorial Mass was celebrated Tuesday, July 10th at 10 AM in St. Joseph Cathedral Chapel, Lowell St. Urn burial followed in Old St. Joseph Cemetery, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Manchester and Southern NH, 33 South Commercial St., Suite 401, Manchester NH 03101.
