

Peter Panagos, 83, of Manchester, died September 8, 2013 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born on December 6, 1929 in Elizabeth, NJ the son of Christos and Marianthe (Flaskas) Panagos. He moved to Manchester with his family at an early age and grew up in the Queen City. He was educated in the local school system and was a graduate of Manchester Central High School and also graduated from Keene Teacher’s College.
Peter began his teaching career at Spring St. Junior High School in Nashua. He went on to teach at Manchester Central High School and was a member of the original teaching staff at Manchester Memorial High School when it opened in 1960. He was a beloved and devoted teacher at Memorial for more than 30 years retiring in 1992. He taught Industrial Arts and later taught and coordinated the Driver’s Education program for the City of Manchester. He was a longtime member of the Manchester Education Association as well as the New Hampshire Education Association. He was also employed by the State of NH Marine Patrol Division.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors boating and fly fishing. He was a member of the Power Squadron and Trout Unlimited. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Phylis Panagos, in 2005, his grandson Matthew Elliott and by his brother Arthur Panagos.
Members of his family include his two daughters Barbara Desclos and her husband John of Merrimack, and Christine Panagos and her husband Ashley Trace of Portland, OR, his son Dr. Peter Panagos and his wife Wendy of St. Louis, MO, his six grandchildren Jason Desclos and his wife Erika of New Boston, Nichole Desclos of Mt. Vernon, Jessica Desclos of LaGrande, OR, Joshua Desclos of Merrimack, Maxwell Panagos and Sydney Panagos both of St. Louis, MO and his two great-grandchildren Gavin Desclos and Austin Desclos both of New Boston as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday September 12 from 10AM to noon at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester followed by a funeral service in the funeral home. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery. The family requests that donations be made to the Peter Panagos Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Barbara Desclos 161 Calef Rd. Manchester, NH 03103.
