

Born in Manchester, the daughter of Fredrick and Antonia (Fortin) St. Laurent, she attended local schools. She was employed for many years by the William J. Moore Center for the handicapped and as a nurse's aide at Mammoth Nursing Home and St. Theresa's Manor. She was president of NH Department, American Gold Star Mothers and held membership in Blessed Sacrament Church Ladies Guild, the My Brother's Keeper Quilt Group, the POW Wives Group, the Hooksett-ites, Catholic Medical Center's Prime Time, the LOTH (Ladies on the Hill) and the ladies auxiliary, American Legion Post Number 2. She was a regular volunteer at the Manchester VA Medical Center for many years, serving as a recreational facilitator and also helping in the pharmacy. Always busy, she also volunteered at the Catholic Medical Center in the gift shop and cardiology, and donated time at the Clothing Barn in Hooksett. She enjoyed square dancing, line dancing and bowling, but especially time with family, and was always an avid babysitter for her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Gustave Schunemann and by her first son, CWO James E. Schunemann, who died in Vietnam in 1970, as well as many brothers and sisters. She is survived by sons Edward A. and Gary A. Schunemann, both of Manchester and two daughters Carolyn Travers of Salem, NH, and Dr. Marilyn I. Daley of Londonderry, NH, as well as 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
There were no calling hours. A memorial mass was celebrated on Saturday December 5 at 10 am in Blessed Sacrament Church 14 Elm St. Manchester, NH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Rita’s name be made to Blessed Sacrament's My Brother's Keeper, c/o Rose Mary McNair, 14 Elm Street, Manchester, NH 03103. The McHugh Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family with her care.
