
Jay L. Spieler passed away on September 5, 2023 at the age of 78. He was born in Lakewood, New Jersey to Max and Beatrice Spieler. His family lived in Jersey City before moving to Nutley where he graduated from Nutley High School and then attended Newark State College.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 2 years active duty after which he joined the NJ National Guard serving for 4 years.
He worked at Gamarel Electric Company as a sales representative and moved to Gampak, an electrical packing plant, as a plant manager. Gampak is a subsidiary of Gamarel Electric in Hillside where he retired.
He met his wife "Trish" Patricia Bennett in Belmar and they were married for 48 years. They originally lived in Bloomfield and then Nutley where they lived for 33 years. They moved to "The Renaissance" community in Manchester 12 Years ago.
Jay enjoyed all sports both playing and watching, especially basketball and later pickleball in Renaissance. He was one of the original members of the pickleball club. He also was a member of the Passaic-Morris Club, Italian Club, Irish Club, and Friends of Shields Club.
Jay was "a people's person.'" He could talk to anyone about anything. He knew how to get people to talk about themselves and their lives. He always said he should be a detective. Jay and Trish loved their German Shepards. They housed 8 of them (not all at once). He left behind "Buddy" their newest German Shepard. Jay had a tattoo with all the Shepards initials on his leg.
Jay would always be the guy there for you, do anything for you, often buying lunch for friends and family,
He is predeceased by his parents Max and Beatrice Spieler, his brothers-in-law, Robert Boud and William Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, sister Elaine Spieler and her husband Bryan Jones, sisters-in-law Kathleen Boud and Angela Bennett, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be held at Andersen and Campbell Funeral Home, Route 571, Manchester N.J. from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Sunday, September 17th, 2023.
