

Joseph Patrick Liona passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025. Born on September 18, 1930, Joseph grew up in Marine Park, Brooklyn, New York where he graduated from Brooklyn Preparatory High School. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Adolph and Mary T. Liona, and three siblings, Mary, Blanche and Michael.
Joe served in the United States Marine Corps for two years. Afterward, alongside his mother and brother Mike, they ran Gig’s Burger Haven in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Joe then worked for Chase Manhattan Bank as a bank manager until retiring.
In 1966, on New Year’s Eve, Joe met the love of his life, Barbara Anne Larsen. The two married on January 13, 1968, and spent 57 years together. They moved to Hazlet Township, New Jersey where they started their family and raised their children, Terri-Anne (Daukshus), Joseph, Steven, Nancy (Santiago), and Maureen (Corby).
In 2001, Joe and Barbara retired to Leisure Knoll in Manchester, New Jersey, where he lived until his passing. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Veterans Club. He was a runner and loved to bowl and play handball. He tended to several gardens of flowers and vegetables and could always be found rooting for the New York Giants and New York Mets.
Joseph leaves behind a large loving family including his sons and daughters-in-law – Mickey Daukshus, Dina (Gately) Liona, Christine (Corcoran) Liona, Jimmy Santiago, and Michael Corby. He was affectionately known as Pop Pop to his thirteen grandchildren – Christopher, Kyle and Katrina, Ashleigh, Hector, Justin, Meagan, Julie, Amelia, Connor, Hailey, Jake and Rachel. Joe was a friend to everyone he met throughout his life and his memory will live on with those who loved him.
A visitation for Joseph will be held Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 3010 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ 08759. A religious ceremony will occur Friday, January 24, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at St. John's Catholic Church, 619 Chestnut St, Lakehurst, NJ 08733. A committal service will occur Friday, January 24, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Forest Green Park Cemetery, 535 Texas Rd, Marlboro Township, NJ 07751.
