
Alfred Lupo, 89, of Mansfield, died Friday, May 23, 2008 at OSU Medical Center East in Columbus. Born March 27, 1919 in Burgess, Missouri, he was the son of Domenico and Vittorina Bosio Lupo. He retired from Mansfield City Schools where he was an elementary teacher for over 30 years. Mr. Lupo was a gifted, accomplished musician with a special love of Big Band music and was formerly a member of the Musician's Union, joining when he was just nine years old. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga as a Corpsman during WWII. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. Mr. Lupo enjoyed reading and watching science programs. He was a devoted and supportive family man.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carole L. Lupo; three sons, Harold "Hal" Lupo of Columbus, Steven Lupo of Mansfield and Joseph Merrilee Lupo of Pataskala; and three grandchildren, William and Michael of Mansfield and Edward of Tampa, FL. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister, Della and brother, Gino.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 27 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Lon McSherley will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery with military honors by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail.
