
Andrew M. Scheurer, 86 of Mansfield, died Wednesday November 8, 2000 at home of an unexpected illness. Mr. Scheurer was born July 3, 1914 to Andrew and Katherine Scheurer and was one of six children, and was life long resident of Mansfield. He attended Madison Schools. Mr. Scheurer was a retired Masonry Contractor and Real Estate Broker. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Island Campaigns of the Pacific Theater. Upon his discharge he returned home and met his future bride, Gloria Jean Bowden. They were married on August 25, 1946 and had celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this past summer. Mr. Scheurer would proudly tell family and friends '' That when she said I do, it was the best day of my life.'' Mr. Scheurer was the Commandant of the Richland County Marine Corps League. He was President of Mansfield Patriotic and Memorial Association a member of the Joint Veterans Council. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #16, VFW Post # 26, and an honorary Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Scheurer as described by his family, lived a life of generosity, humor, thankfulness and love for his children.
He is survived by his children who thought he was the best father anyone could ask for, Gary Williams of Columbus; Daniel and Michael of Mansfield; Andrew Jr. and his wife, Peggy and his daughter Dianne and her husband, Michael Stancato; grandchildren, Eric and Hannah Scheurer of Mansfield; Matthew Scheurer stationed in Japan; Brandi Denzer and Mandi Deitzel both of Galion, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Michael and Brittani Denzer; Clint II and Savannah Bussinger all of Galion, Ohio Jonathon, Kimberely and Vaughn Scheurer of Mansfield, Ohio; one brother, Frank Scheurer and one sister, Rose Osgar both of Mansfield and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and Robert and one sister, Elizabeth Schambs.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Saturday November 11, 2000 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Sunday November 12, 2000 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday November 13, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Cloyd Kress. Military graveside services will be held at Caesarea Church Cemetery conducted by the Joint Veterans Council Burial Detail.
