
A. Calvin Satterfield, 81, of Mansfield died Friday afternoon, March 14, 2003 at his home. Mr. Satterfield was born January 8, 1922 in Fairmont, W. Virginia to Arlie and Ethel King Satterfield. He retired from Empire Detroit Steel Company in 1983 after 32 years of service. Calvin enjoyed bird watching, maintaining his bird feeders, fishing and being with his grandchildren. He was a member of Ridgeway First Church of God on McElroy Road. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor as an electrician's mate and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Satterfield; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Mike Nelson of Mansfield; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Buffy and Tim Richardson of Lexington, Shannon and Tom Maurer of Lexington, Michael Nelson of Mansfield, Jason and Kris Nelson of Shelby, Tracy Smith of Mansfield, Diane and Gary Thompson of Mansfield, Jon Nelson of Mansfield and Sayja Nelson of Mansfield; thirteen great-grandchildren, Lynsy, Allen and Corey Richardson and Thomas and Joshua Maurer, all of Lexington, Sarah Fagan and Chaise Nelson of Mansfield, Melaina and Breanna Nelson of Shelby, Robert Crabtree of Mansfield, Jerry Smith of Texas, Kari Stollings and Gary Alan Thompson, both of Mansfield; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Madge Shaver of Mansfield, Jean and Bob Pitzer of W. Virginia and Wilma and Harry Arny of Ravenna, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Ethel Satterfield; sisters, Lou Harden and Mabel Satterfield; and daughter, Linda Crabtree.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Sunday, March 16 from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services conducted by Pastor John Dodds will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Group at Ridgeway First Church of God.
