Beverly S. Sloan-Cates, 53, of Mansfield, passed away early Sunday morning, March 8, 2015, at OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. She was born July 10, 1961, in Mansfield, Ohio, to James Robert Sloan and Wanda Ithel Thompson Sloan.
Bev graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1979. She worked at Therm-O-Disc, then most recently, worked at Fred Meyer Jewelers where she was known as "Diamond Bev". She loved cooking, animals, jewelry and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.
She is survived by her soul mate and husband of 19 years, Virgil Cates; sons, Alex Silvey and Chris Silvey; stepson, Kevin Silvey; her tea cup Yorkie-Pomeranian mix, Bunny; mother-in-law, Sophia Goldsmith; sister-in-law, Cindy (Jeff) Congeni; niece and nephews, Billy, James, Charles and Alyssa Sloan and Sophia, Max and Leo Congeni; and best friend, Salli Tschantz.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Billy Sloan.
There will be no services at this time. Memorial contributions in memory of Beverly may be made to the Humane Society of Richland County, 3026 Park Ave. West, Ontario, OH 44906. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
