
Calvin L. 'Cal' Miller, 74, of Ontario died Wednesday evening, April 9, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Miller was born February 20, 1929 in Marion, Ohio to Isaac Cletus & Lily Dale Fiant Miller and had lived in the Mansfield area the last 30 years. He retired from the Village of Ontario where he was Captain of the Ontario Police Department and later served as Zoning Inspector and Village Administrator until 2002. He was also Chief of Police in Mt. Gilead, Ohio from 1963-1969. He was a member of the NRA, Ontario VFW Post #7651, AmVets #26, American Legion #16 in Mt. Gilead, Korean War Veterans Association, Lions Club of Ontario, Honorary Kentucky Colonel, American Motorcycle Association and the AARP. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and his motorcycle. Mr. Miller was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea from 1950-1952 in the 72nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alice Marie Stephens Miller; two sons, Larry Miller of W. Columbia, South Carolina and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Kevin L. Miller of Huntington Beach, California; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ronda S. & Steven J. Noble and Connie S. & Roland F. Guegold, all of Mansfield; grandchildren, Gabrielle, Candace and Damian Guegold; a great-grandson, Kagan; a brother and sister-in-law, Merrill & Patricia Miller of Okeechobee, Florida; a sister, Rosella Johnson of Lima, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Warren & Darrell Miller.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Larry Collins and Lexington Chief of Police, Richard Hamrick. Military services will follow at Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. A family gathering will follow graveside services at the City of Ontario Community Center on Stumbo Road.
