Candace Marie Harp, 23, of Berea died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Southwest General Health Center in Berea. Candace was born April 24, 1979 in Mansfield to Steven Harp and Mari Hagerman Colace. She was a 1997 graduate of Loudonville High School, 2000 graduate of Mt. Vernon Nazarene College where she earned a Bachelors of Liberal Arts, with a major in English and a minor in Journalism. While at Mt. Vernon Nazarene College, she was Vice President of Campus Life activities, served as Committee Chairperson and was a member on the Chapel Attendance Committee; Concert Committee and the Campus Life Counsel. Candace was Editor for MVNC Lake Holm Viewer, served as Vice President of Community Life Student Government Association and assisted with Academic computing, the English Department and Admissions. She was co-host of WNZR MVNC's radio station morning show and top ten count down, where she was also Promotion Director for the station and received the award for 'Outstanding 1st year Broadcaster'. She was currently employed as a resident director at Baldwin-Wallace College and was attending Kent State University pursuing a Master's degree. While attending Baldwin-Wallace College, Candace was, Hall Director for 'Lang Hall'; supervised four resident assistants and 143 residents. She was a Graduate Assistant for the Student Activities Office. She was Editor of 'The Front Line', Student Activities newsletter, Emerging Leaders Advisor and Campus Entertainment Productions CEP Advisor. Candace was the Dance Marathon Co-Advisor. She raised over $7000.00 for the fundraiser for Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. She was the Alternate Spring Break Trip Advisor in 2002 at Philadelphia, PA. Candace was pursuing a Masters Degree at Kent State University, in Educational Administration. Candace was affiliated with Berean Baptist Church in Mansfield.
She is survived by her parents, Mari & Tony Colace of Perrysville and Steve & Becka Harp of Wadsworth, Ohio; three sisters, Holli Caton and Petey McMillen, both of Mansfield, and Jennifer McMillen Smith of Berea; two brothers, Matthew Harp of Wadsworth and Chris McMillen of Columbus, Ohio; grandparents, Richard & Barbara Hagerman and Lee & Jean Harp, all of Mansfield; step-grandparents, Gino & Pat Colace of Mansfield; great-grandmothers, Rosa Hagerman and Helen Remy, both of Mansfield; a nephew, Isaac Smith; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Vern & Vera Harp, Fannie Lewis Sergent, Vern Hagerman and Richard Odson.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Friday, May 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Additional calling hours will be observed one hour prior to funeral services to be held at Berean Baptist Church, Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Rev. David Pound will conduct services. Burial will follow in Windsor Park Cemetery. A celebration service and dinner will be held at the church following the committal. Memorial contributions may be made to Youth For Christ of Mansfield. A memorial service will be held on May 22, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at the Baldwin Wallace College.
