Carl E. Stevens, 72, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 29, 2016. He was a resident of both Mansfield, Ohio and Morehead, Kentucky. Carl was born October 19, 1944, in Niles, Ohio, one of eight children of the late Bethel and Ollie (Earls) Stevens.
He was a laborer with Local #1216 for over 50 years. Carl was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching NASCAR with Dale Sr. and Dale Jr. being his favorite drivers. He also followed the OSU Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. His absolute favorite athletes were his grandchildren and he supported all their activities whenever he could. He was devoted to his family and received much joy from caring for others. Much more comfortable being the supporter, Carl was not one to live in the limelight. However, the light of the legacy he leaves behind will live on in those who loved him.
Carl enjoyed visiting Kentucky as often as possible. Fishing, hunting and four-wheeling were at the top of his list when he got there.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Lawhorn Stevens; two sons, Carl (Brenda) Stevens, Jr. and Billy (Beth) Stevens; seven grandchildren, Alex (Katie) Griffeth, Kaitlyn (Zach) Fraley, Nicholas (Amber) Stevens, Taylor Stevens (Christopher Mulherin), Jacob Stevens, Chase Stevens and Emily Stevens; two great-grandchildren, Vera Stevens and Drake Griffeth; three sisters, Cloteen Barker, Darlene (Guy) Glover and Pauline Carroll; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Frances Stevens.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Billy Stevens, Alvin Stevens, Paul Stevens and Leroy Stevens.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Clifford Earl Tackett will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Olivesburg, Ohio.
