Catherine Smith

Catherine “Cathy” Smith, 62, died Monday, November 28, 2011 at Mansfield Memorial Homes after a six year battle with cancer. Born February 1, 1949 in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of John R. and Emma Jean (Bailey) Thomas. Cathy was a graduate of Fairdale High School in 1967. She worked in Human Resources at Sprint for 20 years, worked in the office of Dr. Barkett, and 10 years in Human Resources at the Health Department where she retired from. Cathy did several plays at The Mansfield Playhouse and was a very hands on mom with her daughter, Beth, volunteering her time at school functions. She loved to read, go to movies, and go for walks.

She is survived by her husband, Don Smith, whom she married May 25, 1985; daughter, Beth Smith; siblings, Tatie Griffith, John (Carla) Thomas, and Vicky Souza, all of Louisville, KY; brothers-in-law, Raymond (Helen) Smith and Darrell (Lynda) Smith, both of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call Thursday, December 1, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Rev. George Reece. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
