
Cecil A. Friend, 86, of Mansfield died August 29, 2002 at home following an extended illness. Mr. Friend was born March 19, 1916 in Ashland, Ohio residing in the Mansfield area most of his life. He owned Kwik Car Wash in Galion, Ohio and had also worked at Westinghouse. Mr. Friend was a lifetime member of VFW #9943, Galion Pilot Association, United Flying Octogenarians, AOPA and has been flying since 1939. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II serving in Saipan.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Gemzer Friend of Mansfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Clare Friend of Holland, MI; and Bob and Genia Friend of Merritt Island, FL; one granddaughter and her spouse, Amy and Ken Reece of Toledo; one great-granddaughter, Kelsey Reece; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Velma Friend; and three brothers, Paul, Floyd and Fred Friend.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Sunday September 1, 2002 from 3:00-4:00 pm followed by funeral services at 4:00 pm. Private family graveside services will be held at Mansfield Memorial Park at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
