Cecilia A. "Cec" (Hrivnak) Mathews

Cecilia A. "Cec" (Hrivnak) Mathews, 71, of Mansfield, passed away at her home on Sunday, December 30, 2018. Cecilia was born on December 26, 1947 in Mansfield, Ohio, the daughter of John J. and Helen D. (Stover) Hrivnak.

Cecilia climbed the corporate ladder as a woman in the 80's without a college education, and she retired as a trainer for British Telecommunications. The family matriarch, Cecilia, loved and adored her family and was always taking care of them. She had an amazing relationship with her sisters and she was her sons' biggest fan and was always cheering from the sidelines when they played sports. A caring and loving soul, who strived to care for the needs of others, even when her own health was not good. Christmas time was her favorite time of the year and she freely gave of herself. You certainly could always count on Cecilia to provide you with a smile and the best hug. She was a world traveler, planning and organizing many family trips, loved shopping for antiques and doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving are her sons, Donald H. (Mindy) Mathews of Columbus and Stephen T. (Carrie) Mathews of Medina; grandchildren, Jane (Randall) Arnold of Cincinnati, Delaney and Donovan Mathews both of Columbus; her pet dog, Eddie; sisters, Mary Jo (Alan) Hendricks of North Olmsted, Bonnie Hrivnak of Hartwell, Georgia, and Linda (Doug) Barker of Mansfield; nieces, Cristy (Ed) Dorsey of Anderson, South Carolina and Cary Beth Woodard of Columbus; nephew, Brett (Alyssa) Woodard of Mansfield; and many cousins and other relatives. Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband of 41 years, Donald M. Mathews.

Family and friends may visit from 1:00-2:00 pm on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S Lexington Springmill Road. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 pm at Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or Richland County Humane Society, as Cecilia loved to help others.
