
Charles Barker, Jr., 68, of 45 Buckeye Dr. Shelby, Ohio died at home Thursday July 12, 2001 following an extended illness. Mr. Barker was born January 14, 1933 in Grahn, Kentucky residing in the Mansfield area since 1950. Charles retired from Armco Steel after 37years of service and was a member of Community Baptist Bible Church. He was a member of Shiloh American Legion Garrett-Riest Post #503, Frank H. Marquis Lodge #640 F. & A.M. a 32 degree Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, Ohio, a member of Richland County Scottish Rite, Mansfield Commandary #21 R.A.M., Mansfield Council #94, and Mansfield Chapter #28. He was a past member of Shadybrook Freewill Baptist Church in Sumterville, Florida and also a member of VFW in Grayson, Kentucky. Mr. Barker was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War where he was a paratrooper in the Rakisan Division.
Surviving are his wife, whom he married January 6, 1993, Glenda J. Smith Carver Barker; four sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Douglas and Linda Barker and Keith and Barbara Barker all of Mansfield; Randall and Brenda Barker of Greenwich, Ohio; and Blaine Barker of Shelby, Ohio; his mother, Blanche Carroll Barker; three step sons and step daughters-in-law, Steven and Sheila Carver of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Shannon and Sheila Carver and Shawn Carver all of Galion, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Michael, Brandon, Jeremy, Joshua, Jessica, Kira and Gabrielle Barker; four step grandchildren, Carrie and Brett Woodard; Star, Sierra, Steven, Arianna and Jacob Carver; fifteen brothers and sisters and their spouses, Mazie Barker; Linda Lou and Bobby Kazee; Priscilla and John Sparks; Bobby and Vickie Barker; Don Wesley and Louise Barker; Timothy Barker; and Vickie Gay and Rick Stapleton all of Kentucky; Goldie and Gene Smith; Hazel and Ralph Parsons; Viola Jaques; William Dewey and Della Barker; Myra Janet and Glenn Seagraves; Ruby and Raymond Sedmak; Ernest Ray and Sherry Barker; and Roger and Ruth Barker all of Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Russell Barker; his first wife of 34 years, Rudy Tackett Barker; an infant sister, Wanda Barker and one infant grandson.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Sunday July 15, 2001 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., with Masonic Services being held at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday July 16, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Randall Collins. Military graveside services will be in Shenandoah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Baptist Bible Church in memory of Charles Barker Jr.
