

Charles L. Jones, Jr., 65, of 353 Shelby-Ontario Rd. died suddenly Thursday morning, August 31, 2000 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital of cardiac arrest having been cancer free for a year and a half from lung cancer. Mr. Jones was born May 10, 1935 in Centerville, Ohio living in the Ontario area since 1963. He was a 1953 graduate of Cadiz High School. He retired from General Motors in 1993. Mr. Jones had served as mayor of Ontario since April 1997. He was a member of Ontario First Church of God, the Ontario Council from January 1984 to April 1997, and the Richland County Board of Education. Mr. Jones had served as auditor for the Auto Workers Credit Union. He worked as a volunteer for the Ontario Schools for the past 15 years. He was a member and past patron of Ruth Chapter #17 of Mansfield, a member of the Ontario Lions Club, A.A.R.P., 32nd degree Mason of Wm McKinley Masonic Lodge in Canton, Al Koran of Cleveland, Scottish Rite of Canton, and ''B'' member of V.F.W. Post #7651 of Ontario. Mr. Jones had served in the United States Army with an honorable discharge in 1955.
He was survived by his wife, Beverly Ruth Price Jones whom he married November 11, 1961; three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna C. & Jeff Johnson of Surprise, Arizona, Cindy L. & R. David Hoover and Trina O. & Jeff Bisel, all of Ontario; eight grandchildren, Lyle, Samantha, Jeffery, Josh, Helen, Sarah, Jordan, and Savannah; a sister, Clara Wood of Kingman, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L., Sr., & Marguerite Miller Jones; and a sister, Virginia Hutton.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Sunday from 2-5:00 P.M. and Monday from 2-5:00 P.M. with Ontario Police serving as Honor Guard. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ontario First Church of God, 1756 Park Ave West conducted by Rev. Larry Collins. Memorial services will be held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. conducted by the Ontario Lion's Club and Monday at 4:30 p.m. conducted by the Order of Eastern Star. Full military services will be held at Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family who will contribute in accordance with his wishes.
