
Charles Mitchell, 78, of Mansfield, died Wednesday July 9, 2008 at Mifflin Care Center. Born April 28, 1930, in Columbus, Mississippi, he was the son of Frank Mitchell, Sr. and Jannice Moody Mitchell. Charles received a Bachelor of Arts from American University, a member of American Mensa Society and Kiwanis of Berea. He served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was an educator, writer and retired from the Berea branch of NASA where he was a staff reporter and later, the editor.
He is survived by two daughters, Gloria Lewis, Houston, TX, and Paula Mitchell Conley, Jackson, MS; one son, Bobby Mitchell, Jackson, MS; four grandchildren, Markea Jordan and Shamika, Wayne, and Malcolm Conley; one great-grandchild, Taijha Conley; three brothers, Sam Mitchell, Los Angeles, CA, Walter Mitchell, Palmdale, CA, and Donnie Mitchell, Mansfield; two sisters, Rosie Harris, Columbus, MS, Nettie Shepard, Portland, OR; uncle, Ellis Mitchell, Columbus, MS; son-in-law, Timothy E. Lewis; numerous nephews and nieces, including, Arelya Mitchell, Memphis TN; cousins, Henry Webber and Sara Mosley; and friend, Mary Foster. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Mitchell and Bettie Blank and two brothers, Frank and Willie Mitchell.
There will be no calling hours or services observed at this time. Wappner Funeral Directors was privileged to serve the family of Charles Mitchell.
