
Charles Youngblood, 83 of Mansfield, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008. Mr. Youngblood was born August 3, 1924 in Kingston, Jamaica, and moved to America at a young age with his mother and two sisters to reside in Detroit, Michigan with his aunt and uncle. After graduating from high school in Detroit, Charles went on to join the United States Navy, where he served as a chef during World War II. He continued in food service following his time in the Navy by accepting a job as a Master Chef at Mansfield's Leland Hotel, a feat of which he was quite proud. Later in life, Charles was a chef with the Blue Dolphin Restaurant. He currently had lived at the Mansfield Memorial Homes, where the nurses and staff recalled his fun, sweet and personable ways. He even joked with the staff about the food, saying he "desired a real good steak." He always had a story to tell and never made anyone feel left out.
Charles is survived by his good friends, Terry and Gloria Loughman of Mansfield; and all of his family of caregivers at Mansfield Memorial Homes.
A graveside funeral for Charles will take place at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 26, 2008, in Mansfield Cemetery, with Rev. Gloria Loughman officiating. Wappner Funeral Directors assisted with the completion of arrangements and services.
