
Dang V. Doan, 82 of Mansfield, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born March 11, 1928 in Hue, Vietnam, he was the son of Khanh Doan and Than Thi Ho. Dang worked for the Vietnamese military in the communications division for a number of years and prior to 1975 he began working with the American Government in communications. In 1975, the First English Lutheran Church sponsored his family to move to Mansfield and helped them get established. He retired from Sears as an electronic technician. A kind hearted gentleman, Dang was a family man who was courageous, strong, and disciplined. He loved his family dearly and being a part of family gatherings. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to Canada, Las Vegas, Washington D.C., and California.
He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Hien and Tien Ninh, Dong and Vu Tran, all of St. Louis, Missouri, Hang Pack of Mansfield, and Ha and Greg Jones of Shelby; three sons and daughters-in-law, Namesake Huy and Marie Doan, Huynh and Vickie Doan, and Hung and Amanda Doan, all of Mansfield; 16 grandchildren, Chau Dich Ton Brandon Leslie Doan of Columbus, Kathy Matthew Westbrook, Krystyna Ninh, Kayla Ninh, all of St. Louis, Missouri, Angela fiancé, Matthew Rybalt Doan, Alisha Doan, all of Columbus, April Doan of Mansfield, Meagan Doan of Columbus, Casey Doan of Mansfield, Tiffany Pack of Columbus, Tyler Pack of Mansfield, Victoria Jones, Taylor Jones, both of Shelby, Minh Thong Tran, Minh Thien Tran, and Bao Tam Tran, all of St. Louis, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren, Jaslyn, Landen, Bennett, Anna, Andrew, Jaleah, and Mareya; brother, De Van Doan of Sacramento, California; sister, Doan Thi Bich of Vietnam; two sisters-in-law, Hoa Tam Tran of Vietnam, and Phu Tran of California; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hao Thi Tran; his parents; one great-grandchild, Javion; brother-in-law, Tu Tran; sisters-in-law, Bao Thi Tran, and An Ton Nu.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield. Funeral services observing both Christian and Buddhist traditions will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Chua Hoa Nghiem Temple, 9105 Blacklick Rd., Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
