
David Allen Armstrong, 74, of Mansfield, died Thursday, August 12, 2010, at MedCentral Mansfield following a brief illness. Born February 2, 1936, in Mansfield, he was the son of Loyd and Louise Ryan Armstrong. A 1954 graduate of Mansfield Senior High, Mr. Armstrong received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio University. He retired from Richland Engineering in 2000, after 27 years of service. He was a member of the Lexington-Shelby Elks Lodge #2554 since 1989 where he served as secretary and was also a member of the Lexington Moose Lodge #2511. Mr. Armstrong enjoyed golfing and was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Sue Benick Armstrong; one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Jessica Armstrong of Loudonville; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Tom Dorsey of Mansfield; one grandson, Mathew Armstrong; two step-daughters, Michelle Eric Bensinger-Etter and Mindi Ray Bensinger-Risner; two step-sons, Martin Bensinger and Charles Bensinger; one step-grandson, Zack Bensinger; daughter-in-law, Mary Armstrong of Loudonville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ralph Armstrong of Shelby and Bill and Hilda Armstrong of Mansfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Saundra Metcalf Armstrong on July 3, 1994; one son, Jeffrey Armstrong; and two brothers, Norman and Richard Armstrong.
Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2010, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield where Elks services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 16, 2010, at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Christopher Thomas. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lexington-Shelby Elks Lodge #2554.
