David "Dave" A. Sheriff, Sr.

David "Dave" A. Sheriff Sr., 75, of Shiloh, passed away Friday afternoon, December 8, 2017, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was born June 7, 1942, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Glenn and Georgia (Dials) Sheriff.

Dave put his family first in everything he did. He especially enjoyed the big family cookouts and get togethers. His number one favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren and their families. He was outgoing, never met a stranger and was a wonderful friend to all. Dave had a bit of an ornery side and enjoyed teasing people-all in fun of course.

He was formerly employed as a truck driver with Con-Way Central Express for 19 years. He also worked at Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co. for 13 years. Dave kept himself active, preferring to spend his time outdoors as much as possible. He enjoyed fishing and had many "fish stories" over the years about the one that got away. Dave was a faithful OSU Buckeye fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR, cheering on his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon.

Dave is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marion McGee Sheriff; son, David Jr. (Tammy "Lynn") Sheriff of Ontario; daughter, Tammy "Jo" (Brad) Howell of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Brooke (Dustin) Smith, Zach and Blake Howell, Ryan, Jeremy and Casilyn Sheriff; and four great-grandchildren, Elise, Maren and Zealand Smith and Lyra Howell. He is also survived by two brothers, Glenn "Sonny" (Janet) Sheriff and Bob (Barb) Sheriff, both of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews; several very dear relatives and cousins; and many close friends.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Christopher Thomas officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions honoring Dave's memory and love of children may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
