
Delton L. Nelson, age 67, of 742 McPherson Street, died Wednesday February 2, 2000 at home following an extended illness. Mr. Nelson was born September 17, 1932 in Whitmer, West Virginia living in the Mansfield area since 1951. He retired from Tappan and was a former employee at the News Journal. Mr. Nelson was a member of Lincoln Heights Baptist Church, Venus Lodge, Amvets Post #26 and Sons of Herman. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his wife, Anna Gill Nelson of Mansfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Bryon & Pamela Nelson of Mansfield, two brothers, Ed Nelson of Mansfield and Berman Nelson of Barberton; four sisters, Virginia Varner of Miami, Florida, Ruth Wolford of Agora Hills, California, Mary Miller of Canton, Ohio and Gene Weese of Mill Creek, West Virginia; four half-brothers, Ray Nelson of Whitmer, West Virginia, Richard Nelson of Winchester, Virginia, Harry and Jerome Nelson both of Newport News, Virginia; a step-brother, Howard Arbaugh of Harmon, West Virginia; two step-sisters, Martha Warner of Fulks Run, Virginia and Sylvia Berry of Broadway, Virginia; four grandchildren, Virginia Richardson of Lexington, Ohio, Shannon Maurer of Lexington, Byron Nelson JR. of Mansfield, and Jason Nelson of Shelby; ten great-grandchildren, Sarah Nelson of Mansfield, Lindsay Richardson of Lexington, Ohio, Chaise Nelson of Mansfield, Melaina Nelson of Shelby, Allen and Corey Richardson both of Lexington, Ohio, Tommy & Joshua Maurer of Lexington, Ohio, Jonny & Sayja Nelson both of Mansfield and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Geneva Hedrick, his mother, Virgie Summerfield Nelson; his father, Samuel Nelson; two brothers, Clarence & Leonard Nelson; and six sisters, Nola Varner, Janet, Ethel, Shirley & Phyllis Nelson and Nellie Tunnig. Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Friday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Johnny Collet. Military graveside services will be held at Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln Heights Baptist Church.
