Donald Elliott

Donald Gene Elliott, 69, of Mansfield, died Sunday, August 20, 2006 at his home peacefully in his sleep. Born November 23, 1936 in Mansfield, he was the son of James and Helen Hunger Elliott. He retired from the Mansfield News Journal after 45 years of service. Mr. Elliott was a member of the Sons of Italy. In earlier years, he served as team manager for adult softball leagues, and he also enjoyed bowling.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Herring Elliott; five sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff Elliott of Columbus, Gregory and Susan Elliott of Mansfield, Robert and Denise Elliott of Ashland, Doug Schartiger, Mike Schartiger, both of Mansfield; two daughters, Stephanie Richter of Crestline, and Sherri Schartiger of Mansfield; seven grandchildren; three brothers and sister-in-law, Richard Elliott, David and Barbara Elliott, all of Mansfield, and Danny Elliott of Dayton; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Jim Altaffer of Mansfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jennifer Elliott; two brothers, James and Garry Elliott; and two sisters, Dorothy Bays, and Dianna Kay Heidecker.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
