

Don attended Ashland City Schools and was a graduate of Ashland High School. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. Don began his lifelong occupation as a refrigeration service technician and attended Refrigeration School in Chicago, Illinois shortly after returning from the Marine Corp. He was owner and operator of Long's Refrigeration Service for 25 years before retiring.
Don was a member of the Ashland Masonic Lodge #151. He attended Grace Brethren Church and enjoyed many conversations over coffee with brothers and sisters in Christ in the GBC cafe.
Don enjoyed winters in Florida with family and friends. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's athletic and extra-curricular events and activities. As an outdoorsman, Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice hockey, and relaxing pontoon rides down at Mifflin Lake.
As a steadfast man of faith, Don's love for his Lord and Savior was unconditionally instilled in his children, family and many others who knew him.
Don is survived by the love of his life, Daphne (Maras) Long; daughter, Brenda (Bob) Andress; son Brian (Cindy Price) Long; sister, Iris (Sam) Markel; and grandchildren, Bob Andress, Jr., Lauren Andress, Britton Parsons, Kaley Basham, and Jackson Long.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Albert Long and his infant brother, Thomas Long; and a brother-in-law, Tom Maras.
A gathering for family and friends will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland where a Celebration of Life will be held for family and invited guests at 3:00 p.m. conducted by Pastor Dan Allan followed by a flag presentation conducted by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard. Private burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Brethren Church or Hospice of North Central Ohio.
