
Donald E. Powell, 72, of Mansfield died Sunday evening, October 19, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield after a brief illness. Mr. Powell was born April 7, 1931 in Ashland, Ohio living in the Mansfield area most of his life. At age 13 he was employed with Russell Heating & Air-Conditioning in Ashland, moving to Tiffin in 1958 where he was employed with Tiffin Art Metal, and returning to Mansfield in 1960 working at Remlong Heating. He later managed Mobile Supply, a company he purchased in 1975 and established as Powell Supply. Mr. Powell was a member of Knights of Columbus, Lodge #4448, Mansfield B.I.A. Homebuilders Association, Central Ohio Wholesalers, American Supply Association and past president of Ashland Homebuilders. He was marshall at Muirfield Golf Course. He loved Florida, collecting watches and gadgets and watching movies. Donald's pride and joy was his 1992 Cadillac Brougham.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Clara Cochran Powell; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon 'Sherry' & Tom Studer and Diane Powell-Enderby, all of Mansfield; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill & Cindie Powell, Bob & Kim Powell and Tom & Patty Powell, all of Mansfield; nine grandchildren, Tom, Adam, Lynn, Lauren, Jason, Jennifer, Brandon, Michael and Christopher; and five great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Kaitlyn, Ethan, Bryn and Mylan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond A. & Gladys A. Long Powell; a brother, Raymond Powell; and a son, Robert Daniel Powell.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Msgr. Dunn Foundation or the Retirement Home for Sisters of St. Francis.
