
Dorothy Gemzer Friend, age 82, died Saturday evening, May 6, 2006, at Mansfield Memorial Homes following a brief illness. Dorothy was born April 29, 1924 in Mansfield to Frank and Mary Powenski Gemzer, living here all of her life. With her late husband Cecil A. Friend, she co-owned and operated the Kwik Car Wash in Galion. She had been a life member of the Sons of Herman, life member of the VFW Post 9943 Women's Auxiliary and a member of the Red Hat Society.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Clare Friend of Holland, Michigan, and Bob and Genia Friend of Merritt Island, Florida; one granddaughter, Amy Klug of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; one great granddaughter Kelsey; sisters, Mary E. Hedges of Columbus, Ohio, and Gloria Bennett of Leesburg, Virginia; and one brother, Paul Gemzer of Mansfield. Dorothy's husband, parents, a brother, Leonard and a sister, Clara, preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 4:00PM to 5:00PM at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Thursday May 11, 2006, with a 5:00 PM funeral service at the funeral home conducted by St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will occur at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the Monsignor Dunn Foundation of St. Peter's Catholic Church.
