

Dorothy H. Palmer, 93, of Mansfield, passed away Monday, November 16, 2015. She was privileged to receive the wonderful care of everyone at Wedgewood Estates and for that, the family is most grateful. She was born January 8, 1922, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Stanley F. and Helen A. (Eilenfeld) Blackstone.
Dorothy graduated from Mansfield Senior High School with the January Class of 1940. She loved to cook and entertain and had many recipe boxes filled to capacity. Dorothy's kind and loving nature was always evident. She created many wonderful crochet items and all her family has something special made by her wonderful hands. She also crocheted hats for the newborns at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. The ultimate lady, she had impeccable manners and made everyone around her feel important. She would send heartfelt cards to those she knew so they were aware of how special they were to her.
She retired as a secretary with the Richland County Soldiers Relief Commission. She was also the secretary for her husband's Army reunion group of the 267th Quartermaster Baking Company. Dorothy was a very active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a huge Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Indians fan.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Diann (William) Sites of Lucas and Joyce (Randall) Dudley of Bellville; seven grandchildren, Andrew Sites, Amy (Matthew) Secrist, Brandon Sites, Eric Sites, Brenda (Ronald) Shephard, Denise (James) Hicks and Matthew (Jennifer) Dudley; eight great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Kalie Sites, Caroline Secrist, Jimmy and Paige Hicks, Jackson, Benjamin and Elizabeth Dudley; a brother-in-law, Carl Pfeifer of Mansfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in December 2013, Jack A. Palmer; parents; sister, Norma Pfeifer; and niece, Laurie Hergatt.
A funeral service conducted by Rev. Dr. Pentti Maki will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions honoring the memory of Dorothy may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
