E. Miller

E. Leona Miller, 91, of Ashland, Ohio, passed away late Saturday evening, August 29, 2015, at Hospice House in Ashland. She was born July 9, 1924, in Memphis, Tennessee, moved around quite a bit during her childhood. She lived in Fostoria, Ohio, during Junior High school and then moved to Ashland as a freshman in high school. It was at Ashland High School that she met her future husband, Donald A. Miller. She attended college in Arkansas when Don proposed. They were married on September 3, 1944, and eventually settled back in Ashland in 1946.

Leona was a feisty lady-small but mighty being an apt description-and others were wise to be aware of her spunk. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church for over 70 years and served as Church Secretary for several years. Leona was an avid reader, and when her eyesight began to fail, used audio books to keep up her literary adventures. She also enjoyed listening to music, painting and crocheting.

Leona was very proud of her "genius" children and grandchildren. She is survived by four children, Richard Miller of Alvarado, TX, Karen (Vincent) Novak of Mansfield, Jerry (Helen) Miller of Olympia, WA and Jackie (Bruce) Fisher of Ashland; eleven grandchildren, Eddie (Sarah), Neil, Nathan, Debbie (Bob), Robin, Jennifer (Rick), Ginger (Tim), Katie, Donald (Hanna), April and Cammie; nineteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and her grand "fur" baby, Brandi. She is also survived by a sister, Virginia Reid; nephew and niece, Terry Reid and Carrie Reid-Karikka; and extended family members, Ruth Long and Lynda Morris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Miller; parents, Leeman Kenneth Barker and Mattie Virginia Bradshaw Barker; and grandson, Jared Knepper.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015, in Grace Brethren Church, 1144 W. Main Street, Ashland. Pastor Norm Johnson will conduct the service which follows at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
