
Edgar B. Spears, 78, of 55 Liberty Street, Butler, died Tuesday afternoon, April 3, 2001 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Spears was born February 5, 1923 in Inez, Kentucky living in the Butler area for 32 years. He retired from the Flexible Company in Loudonville after 22 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Spears was a veteran of World War II, where he received two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Oversees Ribbon, and numerous Letters of Accommodation. Mr. Spears enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They said he was a very loving, thoughtful, strong, and giving person.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carmelee Spears ; five sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Oma Spears of Butler, Lowell Spears of Mansfield, Joe Spears of Mansfield, Hubert and Garnet Spears of Ontario, and Lonnie Spears, all of Mansfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Richard Smith of Butler and Lora and Dewayne Deskins of Shelby; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Spears, of Inez, Kentucky; five sisters, Vernon Mollette and Phyllis Mollette, both of Inez County, Kentucky, Bessie Penix of Akron, Maxie Blair of Ashland, Kentucky, and Vivian Turner of West Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion & Oma Hall Spears; two sons, Charles and Thomas Spears; and one brother, Elis Spears.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.. Funreal services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by Dr. Wray C. Smith. Military services will be held at Mansfield Cemetery.
