
Emma Pfister De Long, 98, of Mansfield, died Friday, October 5, 2007 at Lexington Court Care Center. She went home to be with the Lord. Born September 12, 1909 in Bay City, Michigan, she was the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Rentsch Pfister. Emma was the last of 14 brothers and sisters. For many years she lived on the family farm on Noblet Rd. in Springfield Township. Mrs. De Long had attended Ontario Free Methodist Church. She graduated from Ashland College in August 1970, at the age of 60, with a bachelor of science in education. Before her retirement in 1979, Mrs. De Long taught at Brinkerhoff School, Iberia School, and Empire School. She was also employed at Westinghouse. She enjoyed gardening, taking walks, reading, shopping, watching the birds and playing with her great-grandchildren. She is survived by one son, Nelson De Long; two grandsons; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward P. De Long whom she married May 23, 1942; daughter, Melinda De Long; her parents; and 13 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors conducted by Pastor Gene E. Witzky. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
