
Ernest Willard Wycoff, 85, passed away early Sunday morning, March 13, 2011 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born March 15, 1925 in Colliers, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Edith Strang and Archie Wycoff. Ernest was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII as a highly decorated paratrooper earning a Purple Heart his second day at Normandy. He retired from Weidner Pontiac where he was employed as a mechanic. An avid Mansfield Tyger fan, he enjoyed fishing, working on cars and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Walimire Wycoff; daughter, Nancy Ted Hoover of Mansfield; sons, Curtis Carol Eakle Wycoff and David Stacy Wycoff, both of Mansfield; sister-in-law, Jean Ridenour of Mansfield; grandchildren, Michael Mandy Hoover, Eric Debi Hoover, Jerry Machael Zigler Hoover, Troy Keisha Baisden Hoover, Jeffrey TrinaWycoff, Adam Wycoff, Tanner Wycoff and Bailey Wycoff; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. Cloyd Kress will be Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner, 98 S. Diamond St. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. The Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will present military honors.
