
Eugene A. 'Gene' Batson, age 80 of Perrysville, died Thursday morning April 21, 2005 at home. Mr. Batson was born June 15, 1924 in Lyndhurst, Ohio living in the Mansfield area all of his life. He retired from Ideal Electric. He was a member of VFW Perrysville, American Legion Post #16, Amvets of Hayesville, 40 et 8, Boy Scout Troop Leader #16 for many years, and also a member of the Power Squadron. Mr. Batson was an avid golfer, enjoyed wood carving, camping, sailing, travel, reading and will be remembered for his wicked sense of humor. Mr. Batson was a veteran of World War II serving with the 101st Airborne as a Paratrooper. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Bachmann Batson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette & Dave Mutchler of Loudonville, Eileen & Andy Campbell of Mt. Vernon; a son-in-law, Larry Caudill of Bellville; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a daughter of his heart, Christine Crow of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Edith Walters Batson; and two daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Caudill and Donna and Michael Wentworth.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Sunday from 4-6 p.m. 40 et 8 services will be held Sunday evening at 5:30 p.m. Military graveside services will be held Monday, April 25, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Mansfield Memorial Park, conducted by the Richland Joint Veterans Council. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
