Arisen anger beset- forgiven, our beloved Dad is now in heaven.' Eugene W. 'Gries' Griesbach, 78, of Mansfield, died Sunday, March 28, 2010, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born May 9, 1931, in Mansfield, he was the son of Frederick and Amalie Breitenreiter Griesbach. Eugene graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1949. He served in the Air National Guard and retired as part owner of Morrison Building Company, being a talented bricklayer all his life. He also belonged to the Homebuilders Association. Eugene was fondly remembered as an opinionated man who enjoyed intelligent arguments. An accomplished violinist, in his younger years, Eugene was a member of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cutting wood, and tending to his vegetable garden. Eugene worked the evening shift at Decker's in Lexington. He enjoyed visiting the islands and wineries with his friends and family. In the past, he had a boat at Lake Erie and enjoyed his two motorcycles. More recently, he enjoyed his 1966 Mustang and John Deere Tractor.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley J. Hill Griesbach, whom he married December 8, 1950; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Griesbach and Debbie Lape of Mansfield, Daniel and Ann Griesbach of Bellville, and Richard and Barbara Griesbach of Marblehead; daughter, Cheryl Wynn of Greeley, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Colleen Elligott, Robyn Pitney, Phillip Sook Wynn, Joseph Sarha Griesbach, James Griesbach, Brian Heather Bing Griesbach, Mark Griesbach, Gretta and Ella Griesbach; three great-granddaughters, Taryn, Ava, and Anya; nieces and nephews, Sally, Freddie, Tom Debbie, Alex, Tim Tina, Scott, and David; friends, Ed Hoffner, Dale Fry, Harold Stanley, Marvin Underwood, Joe McFarland, Bob Lonsinger, and Tom and Alex Crockney; and cat, Megan. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Lila Griesbach; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Phyllis Hill; and his dog, Melvin.
