Eugene Kelly

Eugene Frederick 'Gene' Kelly, age 69, of Mansfield, died early Wednesday August 12, 2004 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Kelly was born August 26, 1934 in Valley Stream, New York. He lived in Cleveland, Ohio until moving to the Mansfield area in 1983. He retired from General Motors in 1990 after 29 years of service. Mr. Kelly was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and also attended Grace Episcopal Church. He attended Michigan State University, and was a veteran of the United States Navy serving aboard the USS LAWS. He was also a member of Tin Can Sailors Club.

Surviving are his wife, Alta L. Barbee Kelly of Mansfield; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael J. & Dawn Kelly of Mansfield, James T. & Carol Kelly of Euclid, Ohio and John P. & Connie Kelly of Madison, Ohio; also surviving are Larry & Phyllis Dombos of Newbern, North Carolina, Jackie Hale of Dallas, Texas, Susan Elliott of Mansfield, Eric & Cheri Barbee of Hilliard, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a brother and sister-in-law, Donald & Betsy Kelly of Rainbow City, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene J. & Bertha Helman Kelly; and his first wife, Patricia A. Kelz Kelly.

Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Sunday from 6-9 p.m. A vigil service will be held Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Father Herb Weber. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, Ohio, conducted by Father John Jorden.
