Gaylord Strine

Gaylord Richard Strine, 85, of Ashland, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Hospice of North Central Ohio. Born November 21, 1927 in Ashland County, he was the son of Wayne “Pop” and Bess (Sheppard) Strine. Gaylord was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of Corporal and was part of the 1st Calvary Marching Band. He worked as a printer all his life with A.L. Garber Printing, Hiney Printing in Akron, and retired from Kehl Kolor. Gaylord enjoyed watching birds and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia (Blumenschein) Strine, whom he married July 23, 1949; daughters, Mary (Mike) Lefever and Christine (Carl) Miletto, both of Ashland; sons, Thomas (Nancy) Strine, John (Joyce Wise) Strine, and Patrick (Laurie) Strine, all of Ashland, and Daniel Strine who lives in Ramstein, Germany; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Glorine (Ross) Cody; brother, Carl (Gloria) Strine; sisters-in-law, Hallie Strine, Agatha Strine, and Margie (Lou) Krieg; and brother-in-law, Jim Reynolds. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Jo; sister, Portia Reynolds; and brothers, Miles (Kate), Wayne “Jim”, Harold (Bessie), Earl, Robert (Portia), and Warren Strine.

Per Gaylord’s wishes, there will be no formal calling hours or services. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Ashland Cemetery conducted by Father Rod Kreidler. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward Catholic Church Building Fund or Hospice of North Central Ohio.
