

Born August 29, 1917 in Mansfield, he was the son of Dwight and Frances (Toft) Maxwell. Mr. Maxwell was a 1935 graduate of Mansfield Senior High and was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He retired from Mansfield General Hospital in 1982 as Director of Engineering. Prior to that, he was employed by the Chas. Hoffman Company as a foreman. A snowbird, he and Evelyn spent the winters in Arizona for 21 years. He was the oldest member of the First Congregational Church where he served as a Junior and Senior Deacon for many years. He was also a member of the Venus Lodge #152 F.& A.M. Mr. Maxwell loved to play golf and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and Browns but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.
He was the loving father of Don (Liz) Maxwell of Grove City, OH and Kathleen (Larry) Marsh of Mansfield; proud grandfather of Kari (Dwayne) Hawk, Megan Maxwell and Andrew Maxwell as well as two step grandchildren, John Marsh and Jeff (Sally) Marsh; proud great grandfather of Jacob Marsh, Kelsey Hawk and McKenzie Hawk; brother of Mary Catherine Maxwell Morgan of San Clemente, CA; brother-in-law of John Gross; and uncle to several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; and three brothers, Richard Maxwell, Dr. Thomas Maxwell and Dr. Frank Maxwell.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario conducted by Rev. David Hartzfeld. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., at the funeral home on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice.
