
George Alan "Al" Waterhouse, age 80, of Ontario, died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. He was born August 25, 1929 in Manchester, England, the son of the late Nellie Griffiths and Robert Norman Waterhouse. Al was a first generation immigrant to this country from Great Britain in 1956 and became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America on November 14, 1969.
As a young man in England, Al served as a Medic in the Royal Air Force stationed at Biggin Hill outside London following WWII. Al was a member of AMVETS Post 26, Mansfield, Ohio. He was also an accomplished ballroom dancer. Later, Al became an avid fisherman, making frequent trips to his summer cottage in White Lake, Ontario, Canada. Al was a third-generation tool & die maker who began his career at Ford Motor Company and retired from General Motors on May 1, 1997 after 36 years of service. Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, June Price Waterhouse of Ontario; two sons, Al Waterhouse and fiancée, Beena Wycliffe of San Diego, California, and Brian and Beth Fulmer Waterhouse of Powell, Ohio; five grandchildren, Kelsey, Casey, and David of Centerville and Mick and Jordan of Powell; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Mike Theobald of Essex, England; sister-in-law, Vera Price of Essex, England; brother-in-law, Ken and Pauline Price of Oshawa, Canada; daughter-in-law, Tracie Ray Waterhouse of Centerville; "adopted" daughter, Sharon Thompson of Ashland, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends in Canada, England, and around the world.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Norman and Ken; brother-in-law, Arthur Price; and sister-in-law, Edna Price.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Sunday, from 1 to 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund in Al's memory and payable to Otterbein University, c/o The Waterhouse Family Scholarship Fund, Office of Institutional Advancement, 1 South Grove Street, Westerville, OH 43081.
