Gordon J. Davis

Gordon J. Davis, 85, of Fredericktown, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 7, 2020 at Jag Healthcare Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation-Orrville Pointe, in Orrville, Ohio. He was born in Madison Township on June 20, 1934, to the late Chester and Francis (Moore Hammontree) Davis.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Gordon formerly worked at Tappan Co., Archway Bakery in Ashland and as a driver with the Madison Schools bus garage. He enjoyed spending time at MidOhio Motocross where he served as a starter and in the maintenance department. Gordon enjoyed working in his yard, maintaining his property to perfection. His greatest love was sailing and he was known to race a boat occasionally.

Gordon is survived by five children, Cheryl (Dave) Groff, Judson (Julia) Davis, Edwin Davis, Valerie Courtwright (Bob Troupe), and Matheuw (Paula) Davis; twelve grandchildren, Alana (Aaron) Grabovich, Elise (Dylan) Boeddeker, Grant Groff, Tiffany Davis, Gordon (Jill) Davis, Brittany Davis, Ryan Au, Alan Au, Dawn Courtwright, Zachary Mauk, Matheuw (Bethany) Davis, and Cornelia (Curtis) Carpenter; fifteen great-grandchildren; and his ex-wife, Jacqueline Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step mother, Lydia Davis.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2020, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Ken Kinley officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
