
Gustav ''Gus'' Sloboda, 90, of Mansfield died Sunday afternoon, November 11, 2001 at MedCentral Mansfield after a brief illness. Mr. Sloboda was born November 20, 1910 in Virovitica, Croatia. He was a longtime builder and developer in the Mansfield area. Prior to coming to the United States Mr. Sloboda was a civil engineer in Croatia. He was a member of the Home Builders Association and St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served many years on the church council. Mr. Sloboda loved his family, church and country.
He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Ingrid & Emmet ''Tim'' Casler and Nada & Jovica Stankov, all of Mansfield, Dusica & Mischa Sotirovic of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and Vera Smith of Florida; a son and daughter-in-law, Ivan & Marcina Sloboda of Mansfield; 12 grandchildren, Robin, Brian, Christopher and Laura Casler, Todd, Robert and Douglas Sloboda, Jasna and Nasha Stankov, Stephan Smith, and Dan and Ivana Sotirovic; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Sloboda; and two brothers, John and Geza Sloboda.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church conducted by Pastor Renato Siewert. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
