
Harold A. Weaver, 85, of Ashland, died Friday, November 23, 2007 at Ashland Samaritan Hospital. Born May 24, 1922 on the family farm in rural Polk where he resided until May 2003, he was the son of Lloyd and Daisy Snoddy Weaver. Mr. Weaver enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in January 1943 and was assigned to Kessler Field in Mississippi. He attended Mississippi State College, San Antonio Cadet Center, Texas Gunnery School in Harlington, Texas, and O.U.T. Training at Pioute, Texas. He was a Gunner in the Waist, Tail and Ball Turret of the B-17, serving with the 8th Air Force, 1st Air Division. Mr. Weaver flew 25 missions over Europe and was shot down twice. The first time East of Paris in the fall of 1944, the second time was over Berlin on March 19, 1945. He was discharged October 9, 1945 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a graduate of Polk High School in 1940 and was a volunteer with the Polk Lions Club. He was a full time farmer until his retirement if 2003 and had been a salesman for McNess Feed and Crows Seed Corn. Mr. Weaver was a previous member of Polk Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, served on the official board and taught Sunday school. He was a previous member of Jackson grange and the Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Lucas Vaughn Post #219 and served as substitute mail carrier. He was a member of the NRA. He was known for his gift of conversation and enjoyed playing euchre. He was a current member of Savannah United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Gorham Weaver, whom he married October 16, 1948; four daughters, Linda David Bartlett, Peggy Eisel, Julie John Daubenspeck, and Candace John Donley; four grandchildren, Justin Qiana Donley, Christopher Donley, Mary Kate Daubenspeck, and Molly Daubenspeck; and two step grandchildren, Michael and Mandy Bartlett; two great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Gretchen Donley. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Earl Weaver, Helen Ickes, Ralph Weaver, Mabel Wonders, Mary Helwig; and grandson, Joshua Daubenspeck.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2007 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home conducted by Rev. John Guliano. Burial will follow in Ashland County Memorial Park. Military rites will be conducted by Ashland Veteran's Honor Guard.
