
Harry Dale Workman, 69, of 1238 Redman Ave. died unexpectedly Sunday August 12, 2001 at MedCentral Mansfield. Mr. Workman was born August 5, 1932 in the same hospital in Mansfield, being a life long resident. Harry, affectionately known by those close to him, as 'The King' was a strong influence on friends and family. He was very proud to be an American Citizen. Harry taught his children respect, responsibility and accountability. He taught them the importance of a strong work ethic and to live up to the family name, 'Workman'. Keeping commitments and his word where of paramount importance him. He had deep respect for his parents who raised him through hard times. He admired anyone who could overcome great odds to succeed at any endeavor. While he had very little opportunity for formal education he was self taught, very well read and had a tremendous thirst for knowledge. He loved to read and educate himself. He revered his father and mother and taught his children the same honor and respect. He was fascinated by American heroes and taught the lessons of their accomplishments to his children with enthusiastic stories. He encouraged his children to be of good moral character, to respect others and to honor God. His legacy is evident in his posterity.
Harry retired from Ohio Brass after 40 years of dedicated service to the company. He began his career at 'the brass' before entering military service in 1951. He was honorably discharged from service in The United States Air Force in 1955. He returned to work upon his separation from active duty and committed his life to his work and family. Harry loved sports such as boxing, automobile racing, hunting and swimming. He became a very competitive bowler and enjoyed the camaraderie of his teammates and co-workers.
Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Pat. A Marble Workman of Mansfield; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Theresa Workman of Gahanna, Ohio; Richard Workman of Vandalia, Ohio; Robert and Deborah Marble of Mansfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Charles Jose of Mansfield; twelve grandchildren; one brother, Donald 'Emo' Workman of Lucas, one sister, Ilene 'Red' Vanetta of Florida; six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Helen Brown Workman; one sister, Donna Workman, sister-in-law Virginia Green Workman, one Grandson, Dustin Workman and his special friend, Doobie.
There will be no calling hours or funeral services held at Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Military graveside services will be held on Saturday August 18, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Franklin Cemetery conducted by the family.
