
Helen B. Braen Hamilton, 90, of Mansfield, died Tuesday afternoon, December 16, 2003, at her home. She was born August 15, 1913, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, to Frank L. and Ethel F. Wise Hess. Helen had lived in the Mansfield area since the 1930s. She was a 1932 graduate of Shelby High School and the Moody Bible Institute. She was a member of Diamond Hills Baptist Church and formerly attended Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church. She was also a member of Sincere Searchers Bible Club, Pleasant Valley Quilt Club, and Ohio Genealogical Society. Helen was previously employed as a secretary for the Madison School Board.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Hamilton; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. G. Richard and Katherine Braen of Buffalo, New York; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Linda and Jim Weese of Ft. Walton, Florida; two sisters, Florice Smith of Galion and Margaret Ritchie of Mansfield; a granddaughter, Sarah Braen of Franklin, New York; nine step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Herman C. Braen, who died in Offendorf, Germany, during WWII in 1945; two brothers, Robert and John Leland Hess; sister, Janet Hess; and stepson, Robert Hamilton, who died in 1990.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Thursday, December 18, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Christopher Thomas. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery, Fredericktown. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice or Diamond Hills Baptist Church.
