
Howard W. Compton, 70, of Mansfield, died Monday, August 6, 2007 at MedCentral Shelby Hospital. Born July 2, 1937 in Northern, Kentucky, he was the son of James and Mary Hall Compton. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as a military policeman. Mr. Compton retired from Miami Systems after 41 years of service. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School and a member of the First Church of God in Shelby. He enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Bemis Compton; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Cameron Ridenour of Portales, New Mexico; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Marcie Compton of Dayton; grandchildren, Amy Dennis Mathias, Ben Ridenour, and Benjamin Compton; great-granddaughter, Ashley Mathias; stepsons, Emmett and Margaret Fox of Warren Michigan, Ernie and Terrie Fox of Shelby, and Gordon Fox of Phoenix, Arizona; stepdaughters, Linda and Louis Zsoldos of Lexington, Ohio, Carey and Virgil Zahn of Shelby, and Janet and David Cranfill of Antioch, Illinois; sisters and brothers-in-law, Olga and Larry Sumpter, and Connie and Tom Clark, all of Chesapeake; brother, Richard Compton of Chesapeake; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2007 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Friends may also call one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Friday at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Andrew Guertler. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.
